Hi folks! This is a casting call for a demo CD for the new musical comedy "Shapin Up" by Scott Z. Adler. The Casting Call will be Saturday December 9th all day at Refraze Recording Studio in Dayton, Ohio. All leading and chorus parts will be paid positions for a recording in late January (exact date TBD) 2007 at Refraze in Dayton. All of the cast that are selected for the disc will also get preferred casting for the professional launch of the show in the future.

This show is filled with 25 pieces of music ranging in styles from traditional orchestral Broadway sounds to hard rock, bossa nova, salsa, jazz, pop, even pirate music ARR! The music is mostly very difficult and is by no means a come as you are and read it down during the session. So we are looking for the most talented vocalists in the Cincinatti/Dayton/Columbus area that will learn the parts and work hard during the rehearsals. Read more about the show with the Shapin Up Synopsis and get to know the leading characters in the Shapin Up Character Sheet. Applicants need to fit the part of course, but also need a high level of musicianship (ie can read difficult music comfortably). All applicants must be at least 18 unless special arrangements are made and accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Please prepare the following for your audition:
  • One 16 bar or so up-tempo number
  • One 16 bar or so ballad
  • One short monologue (optional)
  • Printed Bio and Photos (optional)
  • Each piece should represent your style, your technical ability, your range, and your intonation
  • Your pieces can be performed with our rehearsal pianist or with a CD that you provide

For more information on the show or the auditions, please contact casting@alpiar.com or call the studio at 937-294-0900. We are looking forward to hear you. Good luck!

 Chris' Notes
One of my closest friends and brothers of the saxophone has his new band Swampdweller and is making a very original sound. Headed up by insane Alto Saxophonist Marc Fendel, and filled with some of Seattle's top Jazz, Hip Hop, and Funk musicians this gig is changing the shape of modern instrumental music.

Attention Dayton Rock fans! Go see Orange Willard and see the high energy new sound they are making. They have a new album coming out (with a track with your's truly playing sax) and are leading the way in the Dayton Band Playoffs. So if you like to rock, make sure you get out and see this band thats just bustin at the seams with heat.

"Be good if I get to the Pearly Gates. I'll play with Gabriel."
